Latent TB treatment uses prescribed antibiotics to prevent inactive tuberculosis germs from becoming active disease. A clinician first checks whether infection is present and whether active tuberculosis must be excluded before treatment begins.

Latent tuberculosis infection usually has no symptoms and is not the same as active tuberculosis. The germs can remain contained in the body, but they may become active later.
