Carbuncle or pimple: what to know

A carbuncle is more than a pimple: it is a connected cluster of infected boils with deeper swelling, tenderness and possible drainage. A pimple is often a small, superficial blocked pore, while a carbuncle can have several linked openings and inflamed skin around them. Avoid pressing either lesion, especially a carbuncle, because pressure can damage surrounding tissue and spread germs.
