Canesten for Nappy Rash

Nappy rash often follows prolonged contact with urine or stool, friction, or diarrhoea. Candida can take advantage of irritated, moist skin. A yeast-related rash may be bright red, involve the creases, and have small spots around the main area, but these clues are not a diagnosis. Irritant dermatitis, allergy, bacterial infection, and other conditions can appear similar.

Change nappies promptly and rinse the area with lukewarm water or use gentle, fragrance-free wipes. Pat dry without rubbing and allow brief nappy-free time when practical. Fasten a clean nappy loosely enough to avoid extra friction. A bland barrier or emollient can protect skin from moisture when suitable for the child. If a pharmacist or clinician recommends Canesten, apply only the named product in the instructed amount and keep it away from eyes and mouth. Do not use leftover creams, scented products, or steroid combinations without advice.

Contact a clinician if the rash is severe, spreading, cracked, blistered, bleeding, or not improving, or if the child seems unusually unsettled. Seek prompt care for fever, pus, marked swelling, rapidly worsening redness, or a child who is difficult to wake or feeding poorly. Mention diarrhoea, recent antibiotics, and any new wipes or creams.
