Candidal Intertrigo Under the Breast

The crease beneath the breast can hold sweat and warmth while skin or clothing rubs the area. This damages the surface and allows Candida yeast to grow. The rash may be red, sore, itchy, burning, moist, cracked, or marked by small spots around its edge. A bra-related irritant rash, eczema, or bacterial infection can look similar, so do not assume every under-breast rash is yeast.

Clean with lukewarm water and a mild fragrance-free cleanser, then pat the underside of the breast and the crease completely dry. Change after exercise or sweating. A well-fitting, breathable bra may reduce rubbing; avoid tight seams and fragranced sprays. A fresh, soft cloth can separate touching skin for short periods, but it must remain dry and clean. Avoid scratching and avoid steroid, antiseptic, essential-oil, or kitchen remedies unless a clinician advises them. Ask a pharmacist or doctor whether a topical antifungal is suitable and follow the product directions.

Book an assessment if the rash persists, returns often, becomes painful, cracks, oozes, or develops an unpleasant smell. Seek prompt care for fever, pus, rapidly spreading redness, marked swelling, or feeling ill. Diabetes, immune suppression, and recent antibiotic use are useful details to mention because they can affect evaluation and treatment.
