Can hyperhidrosis cause heat rash?

Heat rash develops when sweat cannot move freely to the skin surface. Heavy sweating, warm weather, tight clothing, and covered skin can contribute. Small raised spots, stinging, itching, or prickling may appear on the neck, chest, back, or folds. A rash does not establish hyperhidrosis; irritation, infection, or eczema can look similar. Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating, while heat rash is a skin reaction to trapped sweat.

Move somewhere cooler and let the skin dry. Wear loose breathable clothing, change damp garments promptly, and pat rather than rub sweaty areas. A cool shower or compress may soothe irritation. Avoid heavy ointments, fragranced products, and vigorous scrubbing. If sweating repeatedly causes rashes, a clinician can discuss sweat-control treatment and confirm the diagnosis.

Arrange medical assessment if the rash spreads, becomes painful, drains fluid, is associated with fever, or does not settle after cooling and drying. Seek prompt advice for marked swelling, breathing symptoms, or rapid worsening. Recurrent symptoms may need examination to distinguish heat rash from eczema or folliculitis.

Ask whether the appearance fits heat rash, whether your sweating pattern suggests hyperhidrosis, and which antiperspirant or treatment suits the affected area. Mention medicines, recent illness, products, and how quickly the rash follows sweating.
