What should you know about calcipotriol foam?

The foam delivers calcipotriol to affected skin. Its purpose is to moderate the abnormal growth pattern that contributes to thick, scaly plaques in psoriasis. Foam can feel different from a cream or ointment and may be easier to spread through hair-bearing areas, but the prescribed directions remain specific to that product.

It should not be used to test whether an undiagnosed rash is psoriasis. Sensitive sites such as the face, skin folds, and genital area need separate instructions from a qualified clinician.

Follow the label for shaking, dispensing, and application, because foam containers vary. Apply a small amount to the plaques as directed, avoid the eyes and broken skin, and wash your hands after use. Keep the container away from heat and flames, and allow the product to dry before covering the area as advised.

Do not increase applications when improvement seems slow. Dryness, redness, or stinging can happen; report persistent or strong irritation. Before treatment, discuss other vitamin D products, medicines for psoriasis, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and any history of calcium-related problems.

Call emergency services for facial or tongue swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing. Seek prompt clinical advice for blistering, severe burning, a rapidly spreading reaction, or plaques that are becoming painful or widespread.
