Calcified gallstones

Gallstones form from substances in bile and may become increasingly hard or mineralised. Some remain in the gallbladder without causing symptoms. Others move into a bile duct and trigger pain, inflammation, infection, or pancreatitis.

Typical symptoms include steady pain in the upper right or central abdomen, nausea, vomiting, or indigestion, often after a heavy meal. Imaging helps show the stones and gallbladder, while blood tests can look for inflammation or bile-flow problems.

Arrange a GP consultation to review the scan report, symptoms, examination findings, and medical history. Until reviewed, notice whether fatty meals trigger discomfort and choose smaller meals if that helps. Do not start a restrictive diet or take gallstone remedies without clinical advice.

Seek urgent assessment for severe or lasting abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, fever, chills, yellow skin or eyes, pale stools, or very dark urine. These signs can indicate inflammation or a blocked bile duct. Prompt treatment reduces the chance of complications when a stone is obstructing drainage.
