What should you know about caffeine dizziness?

Short answer
Caffeine dizziness can feel like lightheadedness or unsteadiness, and it may improve when caffeine is reduced and fluids and food are restored.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What caffeine dizziness can mean
Caffeine stimulates the nervous system. In a sensitive person, a strong drink or several caffeinated products can bring shakiness, anxiety, a faster heartbeat or a faint feeling. Caffeine may also disturb sleep, and tiredness can make balance symptoms harder to ignore. Dizziness after caffeine does not identify one particular condition.
Other explanations include dehydration, heat exhaustion, low blood sugar, anaemia or iron deficiency anaemia. Spinning brought on by turning in bed can fit benign paroxysmal positional vertigo instead. Repeated episodes deserve an assessment rather than a self-diagnosis.
What to do now
Sit or lie down when the feeling starts, move slowly, and avoid driving until you feel steady. Drink water and eat a regular snack if you have missed a meal. Record the drink, amount, timing, food, sleep and symptoms. Consider reducing caffeine gradually, particularly if stopping suddenly gives you headaches. Check labels for coffee, tea, cola, energy drinks and some medicines.
When to seek care
Get urgent help for fainting, chest pain, severe breathlessness, new weakness, trouble speaking, confusion or a severe new headache. Arrange a medical review if dizziness keeps returning, starts with a racing or irregular heartbeat, follows a new medicine, or affects walking. A clinician may check blood pressure, hydration, blood sugar, blood count and heart rhythm.
Questions for your doctor
Could my symptoms be related to caffeine, dehydration or a medicine? Do I need blood tests or a heart-rhythm check? What reduction plan suits my usual caffeine intake?

Questions people ask
Can caffeine make you feel faint?
It can trigger a faint feeling in some people through stimulation, shakiness, anxiety, poor sleep or missed fluids and food, but true fainting needs urgent attention.
Should you stop caffeine suddenly?
Some people develop withdrawal headaches when they stop abruptly, so a gradual reduction may be more comfortable.
