Burping and heartburn after eating

Heartburn is a burning feeling behind the breastbone that can happen when stomach contents move upward. Try smaller meals, eat slowly, and remain upright after eating. Limit foods and drinks that clearly trigger burning, and avoid eating close to bedtime. Raise the upper body during sleep if symptoms are worse at night. Call emergency services for chest pressure or pain with sweating, breathlessness, faintness, or pain spreading to the arm, jaw, or back. Arrange a medical appointment when symptoms recur, disrupt sleep, or do not settle with sensible measures.
