Bumps and Itching in the Pubic Area

Redness after shaving, waxing, sweating, or friction may reflect irritation or follicle inflammation. A scaly or cracked rash can occur with dermatitis or eczema; contact dermatitis may follow a new soap, wipe, detergent, lubricant, or sanitary product. Moist, tender patches can occur with a skin yeast infection. Intense itching that is worse at night, especially when household contacts itch too, needs assessment for scabies. Ring-shaped scaling, sores, blisters, discharge, or pain can point to causes that require an examination rather than self-treatment.

Pause shaving and fragranced products, wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and wear loose breathable underwear. Avoid scratching, squeezing, or sharing towels. Do not apply steroid, antibiotic, antifungal, or scabies medicine to genital skin without guidance, because the wrong product can mask the appearance or irritate delicate skin. Note when the bumps began, whether they follow hair removal, and whether they spread or recur. A clinician can inspect the skin and choose treatment based on the pattern.

Arrange prompt care for severe pain, rapidly spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever, open sores, blisters, or swelling of the genital area. Seek urgent help for trouble passing urine, facial or breathing swelling, or feeling faint. Book a dermatology or sexual-health assessment when symptoms persist, keep returning, follow a new sexual contact, or affect a partner. Mention pregnancy, immune problems, and medicines that may alter skin healing.
