What should you know about bruise like rash?

Note whether the marks are itchy, scaly, warm, ring-shaped, raised, or tender, and whether they fade when pressed. A rash may follow a new product, heat, sweating, medication, or scratching. Use gentle, fragrance-free cleansing, avoid rubbing and new cosmetics, and keep sweaty skin cool and dry. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without medical advice, but contact the prescriber promptly if the rash began after a new drug. Marking the edge of spreading redness can help you describe progression.

Avoid applying steroid, antifungal, or antibiotic creams at random, since the wrong product can obscure the pattern or irritate the skin. A clinician can choose treatment based on the distribution, surface, and accompanying symptoms.

Seek urgent medical help for a rapidly spreading non-blanching rash, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, blistering, skin peeling, severe pain, fever, confusion, or marked weakness. Arrange a routine review when the rash persists, recurs without an obvious trigger, or appears with unusual bruising elsewhere.

Ask whether the marks represent surface inflammation or bleeding under the skin, whether a medicine or exposure could be responsible, and which warning signs should change the urgency of care. Bring photographs taken in consistent lighting.
