Blaschkoid lichen planus explained

It may produce itchy, flat-topped bumps that trace a curved, whorled, or linear path, often on one side of the body. The pattern is called the lines of Blaschko; these invisible pathways reflect how skin cells developed and are not nerves, blood vessels, or contagious tracks.

Lichen planus often presents with itchy purple-brown or reddish bumps, and this variant arranges them along Blaschko lines. Colour can look deeper brown or grey on richly pigmented skin. Other patterned rashes can resemble it, so a dermatologist may examine the mouth, nails, scalp, and other skin, review medicines, and sometimes take a small skin sample.

Use fragrance-free moisturiser, keep showers lukewarm, and reduce scratching with cool compresses and short nails. Treatment depends on the extent, site, and severity. A clinician may prescribe a topical corticosteroid for limited skin disease or consider other anti-inflammatory treatment when the eruption is extensive or difficult to control. Potent steroid products require guidance, especially on the face or in skin folds.
