What should you know about black stool one time?

A one-time colour change can happen after iron, bismuth-containing medicine or dark food. Black, sticky, shiny or tar-like stool is more concerning for digested blood from the upper digestive tract, even when it happens only once. Gastritis and a peptic ulcer can cause upper digestive bleeding, and Helicobacter Pylori Infection can be associated with ulcer disease. Colour by itself cannot identify the cause, and feeling well does not always settle the question.
