The sheet forms a flexible barrier over healed skin and helps maintain a hydrated surface. This environment can reduce dryness and may make a raised scar feel flatter, softer, or less itchy over time. It cannot close an open wound or correct tension that is pulling a scar apart.

A scar can keep changing as it matures. Thick, extending, painful, or movement-limiting scars need assessment because silicone alone may not address the whole problem.

Wait until the wound is fully closed and any stitches or clips have been managed as instructed. Clean and dry both skin and reusable sheet according to the product directions. Position it over the scar without pulling the skin, and introduce wear gradually if your skin is sensitive.

Check the covered area regularly for trapped moisture, rash, or edge irritation. Remove the sheet before applying creams beneath it unless a clinician or the manufacturer specifically advises otherwise, because added products can affect adhesion and irritate occluded skin. Replace a damaged or poorly adhering sheet according to its instructions.

Stop wearing the sheet and seek advice if the skin becomes persistently red, blistered, weepy, very itchy, or increasingly painful. Prompt assessment is warranted for an opening wound, pus, spreading warmth or redness, fever, or sudden swelling. A clinician can also review a scar that grows beyond the original wound, restricts movement, or remains troublesome despite careful silicone use.

Confirm that the wound is ready for a silicone gel sheet and ask how to adapt wear around joints, hair, or humid conditions. Discuss signs of contact irritation, how progress will be judged, and whether injections, laser treatment, or scar revision surgery might be considered if the scar is raised, tight, painful, or functionally limiting.
