Short answer

Bilateral forearm pain has several possible causes, and its pattern helps guide the assessment.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Useful clues
Pain location, provoking movement and associated sensations
Common context
Repeated or newly increased use of both arms
Assessment areas
Neck, elbows, wrists, tendons, muscles and nerves

Direct answer

Repeated gripping, lifting, typing, tool use, or sport can overload muscles and tendons on both sides. Pain may also come from irritated nerves in the neck or arms, joint conditions, injury, infection, or another medical problem. Location, triggers, weakness, altered sensation, swelling, and general symptoms help narrow the possibilities.

Clues in the symptom pattern

Outer elbow pain that extends into the forearm and worsens with lifting or wrist extension can occur with tennis elbow. Inner elbow discomfort aggravated by gripping or wrist flexion can accompany golfer's elbow. These conditions may present with forearm pain, but pain alone cannot identify the cause.

Burning, tingling, numbness, or pain linked to neck position points toward possible nerve involvement. Visible swelling, warmth, skin colour change, morning stiffness, or pain in several joints gives the clinician a different set of clues.

Practical first steps

Reduce the task that provokes pain without completely immobilising comfortable movement. Break up repetitive work, loosen an overly forceful grip, review desk or tool position, and return to load gradually. A wrapped cold pack may soothe a recent flare, while gentle warmth may feel better for muscular tightness; protect the skin with either approach.

Arrange an assessment when pain persists, keeps returning, disrupts sleep, or limits work and daily tasks. A clinician or physiotherapist can examine the neck, elbows, wrists, muscles, tendons, and nerves before recommending exercises.

Warning signs needing prompt help

Get urgent care if either arm becomes cold, pale, blue, markedly swollen, or suddenly weak or numb. Prompt evaluation is also needed for severe pain after an injury, a visible deformity, spreading redness, fever with a hot swollen area, or dark urine after extreme exertion. Call emergency services if arm pain accompanies chest pressure, breathlessness, sweating, or faintness.

Useful points to discuss

Describe the exact painful area and demonstrate the movement that brings it on. Ask whether the pattern fits tendon overload, nerve irritation, or a joint problem; which temporary work changes may help; and when strengthening can begin safely.

Questions people ask

Can computer work contribute to pain in both forearms?

It can. Prolonged repeated hand use, sustained wrist position, and muscle tension may aggravate forearm tissues, particularly when workload rises or breaks are limited.

Should I stretch painful forearms?

Gentle, comfortable movement may help, but forceful stretching can aggravate an injured tendon or irritated nerve. Stop if symptoms spread, tingling increases, or strength changes.
