What should you know about Bactidol for tonsillitis?

Tonsillitis means inflammation of the tonsils. A sore throat, fever, swollen glands, and sometimes earache can accompany it. Viral illness is common, while strep throat is one possible bacterial cause. Bactidol is a rinse for local mouth and throat comfort; it does not tell you which cause is present and does not remove significant tonsil swelling. Use Bactidol exactly as its label instructs, and spit it out rather than swallowing it. Check with a pharmacist if the person using it is a child, is pregnant, has allergies, or takes regular medicines. Rest, sip cool or warm fluids, and choose foods that are easy to swallow. Do not start leftover antibiotics. If a clinician confirms a bacterial infection, follow the prescribed antibiotic treatment exactly.

Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, inability to swallow saliva, rapidly increasing swelling, severe one-sided throat pain, or a voice that becomes muffled. Arrange a GP assessment when fever or throat pain is substantial, symptoms are worsening, or drinking is becoming difficult. Earache or swollen glands that persist also deserve review.
