Arm Compression Sleeves After Liposuction

The garment should feel evenly supportive rather than sharply tight. It should not roll into a tourniquet-like band, restrict breathing, or change the colour, warmth, movement, or sensation of the hand.

Liposuction creates healing spaces beneath the skin and commonly causes bruising and fluid-related swelling. A correctly selected garment applies distributed pressure, supports tender tissue during movement, and may help the skin sit smoothly while early healing takes place.

More pressure is not necessarily more useful. A sleeve that is undersized, folded, or bunched can create focal pressure over incisions or nerves. Garment style may also differ according to the treated area: some extend across the shoulder or chest to avoid a tight upper edge.

Follow the operating surgeon's instructions for when to put the sleeve on, when it may be removed for washing, and when the size should be reassessed as swelling changes. Smooth wrinkles with flat fingers and check the skin around seams, edges, and incision dressings each time the garment is replaced.

Keep the sleeve clean and dry according to its care label. Ask the surgical team before applying creams beneath it or switching brands, because fabric, compression level, and coverage vary. If the garment becomes loose, damaged, or persistently uncomfortable, request a fit check instead of doubling it or adding tight wraps.

Remove or loosen the garment as instructed and contact the surgical team promptly if it causes increasing numbness, tingling, weakness, deep grooves, blistering, or a hand that becomes pale, blue, cool, or unusually swollen. Increasing redness, warmth, drainage, worsening pain, or fever also needs medical assessment.

Seek urgent care for sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, or a rapidly swelling painful arm. A compression garment is not a treatment for these symptoms.

Confirm which garment and size to use, whether it should cover the elbow or shoulder, how to protect dressings, which daily activities require it, how often fit will be reviewed, and whom to contact if swelling becomes uneven.
