What to Know After a Skin Booster Treatment

The treated skin may feel tight or uneven at first because the product and normal injection-related swelling sit within the tissue. The appearance can vary by treatment area, injection technique, product, and your tendency to bruise.

Small bumps directly over injection points often reflect recently placed product or local swelling rather than the final result. Skin boosters are intended to improve qualities such as hydration and texture; they are not assessed like a procedure designed mainly to add volume.

Bruising may change colour as it fades. Improvement is usually judged after the initial puffiness and tenderness have settled, using the review timing given by your clinic. Avoid pressing lumps to test them repeatedly, as this can further irritate the area.

Keep the area clean, use gentle skincare, and follow the product-specific instructions from your injector. Do not rub, massage, or apply firm pressure unless they specifically advise it. Avoid picking at puncture points and wait until they have closed before applying makeup directly over them.

For the early recovery period, limit intense exercise, strong heat exposure, and anything else your clinician says may worsen flushing or swelling. A cool compress wrapped in clean fabric may feel soothing, but do not press hard or place ice directly on the skin. Check before taking medicine for discomfort, particularly if you bruise easily or use blood-thinning medication.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if redness, warmth, pain, or swelling is worsening rather than settling, or if you develop discharge, fever, spreading redness, marked asymmetry, or a persistent firm area. These changes need assessment rather than home massage.

Seek urgent medical care for severe or escalating pain, pale or blotchy dusky skin, blistering, sudden visual disturbance, weakness, breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, or widespread hives. Tell the clinician what was injected, where it was placed, and when the symptoms began.

Ask which product was used, whether your current swelling or bumps match the expected pattern, what skincare to pause, and when the result should be reviewed. Also confirm whom to contact outside clinic hours and whether any planned facial, dental, laser, or injectable treatment should be rescheduled.
