Breast tenderness, bloating, tiredness, mild cramps, or light spotting may occur during the waiting period. Progesterone and other fertility medicines can produce similar sensations, so they do not confirm or exclude pregnancy.

A clinic blood test measures the pregnancy hormone, while some treatment plans use a home urine test. If the result is positive, the team normally arranges follow-up and later imaging to confirm the pregnancy location and development. An unclear result may need repeat testing.

Take progesterone and any other prescribed medicine on schedule, including on the test day, unless your fertility clinic gives different instructions. Do not stop treatment because of spotting, cramps, or a home-test result before speaking with the team.

Normal gentle activity is often acceptable, but follow restrictions specific to your procedure and health. Avoid starting supplements or medicines without checking that they are suitable during possible pregnancy. Keep the clinic’s contact details and attend the arranged test even if bleeding begins.

Seek urgent assessment for severe or one-sided abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, marked dizziness, heavy bleeding, breathing difficulty, chest pain, or a swollen painful leg. A positive test with pain or bleeding needs prompt advice because an ectopic pregnancy must be excluded.

Contact the clinic promptly for rapidly increasing abdominal swelling, persistent vomiting, reduced urination, sudden weight increase, or trouble breathing. These can occur with ovarian hyperstimulation after fertility treatment and should be assessed rather than watched at home.

Confirm which test to use, the exact testing day, and whether a result needs repeating. Ask how long to continue each medicine, when the first ultrasound would be arranged after a positive result, and which symptoms should go directly to emergency care rather than the clinic.
