Asthma involves sensitive, narrowed airways. Symptoms may come and go, become worse with exercise, cold air, smoke, dust, infections or allergens, and disturb sleep. Seek urgent medical help if breathing is rapidly worsening, you cannot speak comfortably in full sentences, your lips look blue or grey, you feel faint or confused, or your reliever is not helping as directed. Contact a clinician soon when symptoms repeatedly wake you, limit normal activity, or require reliever medicine more often than your plan allows.
