What should you know about non allergic cat?

Cat exposure can coincide with dust, pollen, cleaning products, smoke, or house dust mites. Allergic rhinitis may cause sneezing and a blocked or runny nose, while asthma can cause wheezing, cough, or chest tightness after triggers that are not allergic. A viral illness or chronic cough can also overlap with symptoms noticed around a pet. Allergy tests assess specific immune responses; a negative test for cat allergy does not explain every breathing symptom and does not rule out asthma.

Record where symptoms occur, how soon they begin, how long they last, and whether they follow contact with fur, bedding, dust, or other triggers. Keep rooms ventilated, reduce smoke and strong fragrances, and clean soft furnishings regularly. Do not give a cat away based on symptoms alone before assessment. A clinician may check breathing, review the history, and consider allergy testing or inhaled treatment. Use a nebuliser only when prescribed and explained by a professional.

Arrange review for recurring wheeze, cough, chest tightness, night symptoms, or reduced activity. Seek emergency help for severe breathlessness, difficulty speaking, blue or grey lips, confusion, collapse, or rapidly worsening symptoms. If symptoms follow a sting, food, or medicine and include swelling of the lips or tongue, treat this as an emergency. A persistent cough also deserves assessment even when cat allergy tests are negative.
