Mild diffuse adenomyosis

Diffuse describes changes spread through the muscle rather than confined to one defined area. Adenomyosis can make the uterus tender or enlarged and may cause heavy periods, painful periods or pelvic pain. The word mild often reflects the extent seen on imaging; it does not predict exactly how you will feel.

Some people have no symptoms and need only observation. Symptoms can change over time, so note bleeding, pain, pressure and how they affect sleep, work or daily activity.

Discuss the scan report and your goals with a gynaecologist, especially if you want to become pregnant or are trying to avoid pregnancy. Treatment may include pain relief, medicines that reduce bleeding, or a hormonal coil. A treatment plan should reflect your symptoms, fertility plans and other health conditions.

If symptoms remain disruptive, a specialist may discuss endometrial ablation, uterine artery embolisation or hysterectomy. These procedures have different effects on fertility and recovery, so ask for a tailored explanation before deciding.

Arrange medical review for bleeding that is becoming heavier, pain that is new or worsening, bleeding between periods, or pelvic pain that limits normal activities. Seek urgent help for very heavy bleeding with dizziness, fainting, severe weakness or intense pain.

Keep a record of pad or tampon changes, pain severity, cycle timing and any pregnancy possibility. This helps the clinician judge whether symptoms need prompt testing or treatment.
