Ano ang sintomas ng asthma?

Short answer
Asthma commonly causes wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and shortness of breath that may come and go.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Typical pattern
- Symptoms can vary over time and recur after particular triggers.
- Common clues
- Wheeze, cough, chest tightness and shortness of breath.
- Emergency clue
- Severe breathing difficulty or poor response to prescribed reliever medicine.
The short answer
Symptoms may be worse at night or early in the morning, during exercise, after a viral illness, or following exposure to smoke, dust, fragrances, cold air or allergens. Some people mainly notice a persistent cough rather than obvious wheezing.
How the breathing changes feel
In asthma, the airways become inflamed and narrow, while mucus can further restrict airflow. Wheezing is a musical or whistling sound, usually heard when breathing out. Chest tightness may feel like pressure or a band around the chest. A flare can make speaking, walking or sleeping harder because breathing takes more effort.
The pattern matters: episodes that recur with similar triggers and improve with prescribed reliever medicine can support an asthma assessment, but symptoms alone cannot confirm the diagnosis. A clinician may listen to the chest and arrange breathing tests.
What to do when symptoms appear
Sit upright, move away from a known trigger and follow your written asthma action plan. Use your prescribed reliever inhaler exactly as the plan or clinician directs, ideally with a spacer if one has been recommended. Check that the inhaler is not empty and that your technique delivers the medicine into your lungs.
Arrange a medical review if symptoms are recurring, waking you at night, limiting normal activity or requiring the reliever more often than your plan allows. Keep notes on timing, triggers and response to medication; these details help a clinician adjust preventer treatment safely.
When breathing needs urgent care
Call emergency services if breathlessness is severe, the person cannot finish a sentence, lips or face look blue or grey, the chest is pulling in with each breath, confusion or drowsiness develops, or the prescribed reliever is not helping. Continue the emergency steps in the asthma action plan while help is coming.
Children may show distress through rapid breathing, difficulty feeding, unusual quietness or marked pulling beneath the ribs. Do not make someone lie flat when they are struggling to breathe.
Useful questions for your appointment
Ask whether your symptom pattern needs lung-function testing, which inhaler is the reliever, whether you need daily preventer treatment, and how to check your technique. Request a written action plan that explains what to do when symptoms worsen and when to seek emergency help.

Questions people ask
Can asthma cause coughing without wheezing?
Yes. Asthma can present mainly with cough, especially at night, with exercise or after exposure to a trigger. Other causes of cough are possible, so recurring symptoms deserve assessment.
Why can asthma feel worse at night?
Airway narrowing and inflammation can vary through the day, and bedroom allergens, cooler air or lying down may contribute. Night waking is a reason to review asthma control.
Does chest tightness confirm asthma?
No. Asthma often presents with chest tightness, but several heart, lung and digestive problems can cause a similar feeling. Sudden or severe chest symptoms need prompt assessment.
