What should you know about used MRI scanners for sale?

MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves rather than ionising radiation. A scanner's clinical performance depends on field stability, gradient and coil function, software, cooling, shielding, and image quality. The magnet remains a safety hazard even when the system is switched off, so access control, screening, emergency procedures, and room design must be maintained.

Request the model, field strength, installation history, service records, software level, available coils, and recent image-quality tests. Have qualified engineers inspect the magnet, quench pipe, cooling, electrical supply, patient table, and monitoring systems. Confirm that the room and doors meet safety requirements and that parts, applications support, and staff training are available. Patients should complete the centre's metal and implant screening before every scan.

Tell MRI staff before scanning about implants, metal fragments, medication pumps, pregnancy, kidney concerns, or severe claustrophobia. During or after a scan, report burning, pain, dizziness, breathing difficulty, or a contrast reaction immediately. Never enter the scanner room with belongings or equipment that staff have not cleared.
