What should you know about superficial adenomyosis?

Adenomyosis involves tissue similar to the womb lining sitting within the muscular wall of the uterus. The word superficial refers to a shallower pattern rather than disease that has spread elsewhere. Some people have no symptoms; others notice heavier bleeding, stronger cramps or aching in the pelvis. Symptoms can overlap with fibroids, endometriosis and other causes, so the label is interpreted alongside your history and examination.

A clinician may discuss an ultrasound or MRI when imaging is needed. Imaging can suggest adenomyosis, but symptoms and examination still guide the diagnosis and plan.

Keep a record of bleeding, clots, pain, cycle timing and any effect on sleep or daily activities. Treatment depends on symptom severity, your health, and whether you want to become pregnant. Options may include pain relief, medicines that reduce bleeding, or hormonal treatment such as a Hormonal Coil.
