What should you know about skin asthma symptoms?

Skin symptoms can include dryness, itching, redness, scaling, cracks, or raised patches. Their pattern, location, and relation to products or exposure help distinguish eczema, irritation, hives, and infection. Asthma symptoms arise from the airways: wheezing is a whistling sound, cough may be worse at night or with activity, and chest tightness can feel like pressure or difficulty getting a full breath.

A skin symptom does not establish Asthma, and an airway symptom does not identify its cause on its own. Allergic Rhinitis may add sneezing or a blocked, itchy nose; House Dust Mite Allergy may be one possible shared trigger.

Record the time, duration, location, severity, activity, temperature, and possible exposure for each episode. Photograph changing skin areas in good light. Use a gentle moisturiser for dry skin, avoid scratching and smoke, and follow your prescribed asthma action plan. Do not borrow another person’s inhaler or cream.

Book an assessment when symptoms recur, interrupt sleep, limit activity, or do not settle as expected. Bring your medicines and a symptom diary so the clinician can compare skin and airway patterns.

Get emergency help if breathing is severely difficult, speech is limited by breathlessness, lips look blue or grey, or there is confusion, collapse, or throat swelling. Seek prompt advice for rapidly worsening Wheezing, Cough, or Chest Tightness, or for a rash with facial swelling after an exposure.
