What should you know about rosacea and skin mites?

Short answer
Rosacea can coexist with changes in skin mites, but mites alone do not prove that someone has rosacea or explain every facial symptom.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Demodex mites can be part of normal skin ecology
What the connection means
Rosacea is a condition in which facial blood vessels and skin inflammation can contribute to redness, flushing, burning, sensitivity, and acne-like pimples. Demodex mites normally live in hair follicles and oil glands. In some people with rosacea, an increased mite burden or the skin response to mites may be relevant, but the relationship is not a simple infection that can be diagnosed from appearance alone. Similar symptoms can come from acne, irritation, allergy, or another inflammatory disorder.
Choosing next steps
Keep cleansing gentle, moisturise regularly, and avoid abrasive scrubs, picking, and heavily fragranced products. Record whether heat, sun, alcohol, spicy foods, or new cosmetics precede flares. A dermatologist may diagnose rosacea clinically and decide whether a mite-directed approach is appropriate. Treatments such as azelaic acid may be considered for inflammatory bumps, while light-based procedures can target visible redness in selected patients. Do not use household insect products on skin.
When to seek care
Book an assessment if facial redness or pimples persist, recur, or begin to burn or sting with ordinary products. Seek urgent care for eye pain, light sensitivity, vision change, marked eyelid swelling, rapidly spreading redness, fever, or severe facial swelling. These features need assessment for eye involvement, infection, or another cause.
Questions for your doctor
Does my pattern fit rosacea, acne, irritation, or another condition? Is mite-directed treatment appropriate for my skin? Which cleanser and active treatment are least likely to worsen sensitivity?

Questions people ask
Do skin mites cause every case of rosacea?
No. Rosacea has several contributing mechanisms, and the presence or suspected presence of mites does not explain every case.
Can I treat skin mites at home with insecticide?
No. Household insect products can injure facial skin and eyes; use only treatment recommended for human skin by a clinician.
