Remedy for milia under the eyes

Milia are small, firm keratin cysts beneath the skin and commonly appear around the eyelids or upper cheeks. Their pale, rounded look can resemble whiteheads or other skin bumps, but the surface cannot be safely cleared by pressing. The under-eye skin is thin and close to the eye, so irritation, cuts, and swelling from home extraction are especially undesirable.

Cleanse with a mild product, moisturise lightly, and use sunscreen around the area without rubbing. Avoid needles, pore strips, grainy scrubs, acids, and retinoids close to the eyelid unless a clinician specifically directs their use. A dermatologist may remove a confirmed lesion with a sterile technique such as curettage and cautery, taking the position of the bump into account.

Arrange a review if an under-eye bump is growing, painful, red, bleeding, crusted, or different from other milia. Seek prompt medical attention for eyelid swelling with eye pain, vision changes, discharge, or rapidly worsening redness. These features may indicate a problem other than uncomplicated milia.
