Reasons for sudden hair loss

Hair may shed diffusely across the scalp after a fever, operation, marked emotional strain, rapid weight change, or another body stressor; this pattern is often called Telogen Effluvium. Smooth, sharply defined bare patches can occur with Alopecia Areata. Receding temples or gradual crown loss can fit Male Pattern Hair Loss, while a widening part may fit Female Pattern Hair Loss.
