Penile milia: what to know

Milia are tiny cysts containing trapped keratin near the skin surface. They may appear as smooth, pearly white or skin-coloured bumps and are often firm rather than soft. Penile bumps have many possible causes, including normal anatomical features, blocked follicles, irritation, cysts, and infections, so the label should not be assumed from appearance alone. A clinician may ask about onset, change, pain, itch, discharge, and sexual exposure before examining the skin.

Do not squeeze, pierce, scrape, or use acne acids or wart removers on penile skin. Wash gently, dry without rubbing, and stop any product that causes stinging. Arrange assessment if the bumps are new, persistent, multiplying, inflamed, or worrying you.
