What should you know about one milia on eyelid?

Milia are small keratin-filled cysts close to the skin surface. On an eyelid they may look like a white or cream bead and usually feel firm. A similar bump could be another type of skin bump, a blocked gland, or inflammation, especially if it is tender or the eyelid is swollen. A clear view of the lesion and its relationship to the lash line helps a clinician distinguish these possibilities.

Cleanse gently and avoid rubbing, picking, needles, harsh exfoliants, and unprescribed creams near the eye. Pause eye makeup if it irritates the area, and keep applicators clean. If removal is wanted, a dermatologist or appropriately trained eye clinician can confirm the diagnosis and use a controlled technique. Do not use a topical retinoid on the eyelid unless a clinician specifically directs you.

Arrange prompt assessment for pain, increasing redness, discharge, marked lid swelling, blurred vision, light sensitivity, or a bump that bleeds or changes. Urgent eye care is appropriate for vision loss, severe eye pain, injury, or rapidly worsening swelling. A persistent uncertain lesion also deserves review rather than home treatment.

Ask whether the lesion is milia or a blocked eyelid gland, whether it is safe to observe, who should remove it, and which products should be kept away from the eye. Mention contact lenses, eye disease, recent procedures, or recurrent eyelid irritation.
