What should you know about nodular shadowing on a chest X-ray?

A nodule or shadow can reflect infection, inflammation, scar tissue, overlapping normal structures, or another lung change. Pneumonia may create a temporary opacity, while bronchiectasis and other long-term conditions can alter the appearance of the lungs. Tuberculosis is one possibility considered in the right clinical context, particularly with relevant symptoms or exposure. The wording on an X-ray report does not by itself identify the cause or predict what will happen. Interpretation depends on the image, prior scans, symptoms, examination, and personal risk factors.
