What should you know about MTF laser hair removal?

The device targets pigment in the hair so light energy becomes heat around the follicle. Hair grows in cycles, and only some follicles are in a responsive phase at each visit. Hair colour, skin tone, treatment area, hormones and device choice affect planning and response.

Alexandrite Laser, Diode Laser and Nd:YAG Laser use different wavelengths and may suit different combinations of skin and hair characteristics. Laser treatment can help with shaving-related irritation or Ingrown Hairs, but it does not diagnose the cause of excess hair.

Have a consultation to review skin tone, hair colour, medicines, tanning, scars, tattoos and any history of abnormal healing. Avoid tanning and follow the clinic’s instructions about shaving, waxing and skincare before the appointment. Do not wax or pluck hairs if the clinician needs the follicle present for treatment.

After a session, temporary redness, warmth or swelling around follicles can occur. Protect treated skin from sunlight as advised, use gentle products and avoid picking or abrasive exfoliation while the area settles.

Contact the clinic for blistering, crusting, marked swelling, persistent pain, colour change or signs of infection. Seek urgent care for facial swelling, breathing difficulty or a widespread allergic reaction. New painful lumps, draining areas or recurrent inflammation may need assessment for Hidradenitis Suppurativa rather than repeated hair removal.

Ask which laser and settings suit your skin and hair, how many visits may be considered, what preparation is required, and how hormonal changes could affect regrowth. If excess hair is new or accompanied by other symptoms, ask whether Hirsutism needs medical evaluation before treatment.
