What Should You Know About Milk Spots Around Eyes?

They often look like firm, pearly white or flesh-coloured dots, especially on the eyelids, beneath the eyes, or near the cheeks. Milia are generally harmless and may cause no discomfort, although their appearance can be bothersome.

Milia form when keratin, a protein found in the outer skin, becomes trapped in a tiny pocket beneath the surface. They can appear without an obvious trigger, or after skin irritation, an injury, a rash, or prolonged sun exposure. Some newborns develop them naturally, while adults can notice new spots at any age.

Products near the eyes need professional direction because they may irritate the eye or eyelid.

Arrange a dermatology assessment if a bump is changing, bleeding, crusting, painful, itchy, swollen, or repeatedly returning, or if several new bumps appear quickly. Seek prompt medical advice if the eyelid becomes very red or tender, the eye itself is painful, vision changes, or there is discharge.

A clinician should also examine a spot that does not resemble the others or does not settle after a reasonable period of gentle care. Bring a list of products used around the eyes and mention any recent rash, procedure, injury, or new medication.
