What should you know about milia under eye treatment?

These small, firm cysts contain keratin trapped under the surface. They may sit below the eye or on the eyelid and are often more noticeable because the skin is thin. They are different from whiteheads, which form in a pore, and from inflamed eyelid problems.

Treatment is optional when a typical bump causes no symptoms. A clinician may recommend leaving it alone, especially when it is very close to the eye margin, or may offer a controlled procedure when its position and appearance make removal reasonable.

Do not squeeze or scrape the area. A dermatologist may use careful extraction or discuss curettage and cautery, taking steps to protect nearby tissue. Topical retinoids can be useful in selected situations but may sting and are not automatically suitable for eyelid skin. Follow the clinician's instructions about cleansing, makeup, sun exposure, and touching the treated site.

Arrange an appointment if an under-eye bump is persistent, recurrent, or difficult to identify. Seek prompt advice for bleeding, ulceration, pain, spreading redness, discharge, or rapid change. Eye pain, vision change, significant swelling, or sensitivity to light warrants urgent eye assessment rather than cosmetic treatment.
