What should you know about milia under eye removal at home?

Under-eye milia are small keratin cysts beneath the skin, often firm and pale. The area has delicate tissue and limited room for swelling. Needles, comedone tools, acids, essential oils, and abrasive scrubs can cause cuts, irritation, infection, or a mark that lasts longer than the original bump.

A bump near the eyelid can also be something other than milia. If it is tender, inflamed, attached to the lash line, or changing, an examination is more useful than trying several home remedies.

Wash gently with a mild cleanser, avoid rubbing the eyelids, and keep makeup and skincare tools clean. Do not apply household acids or attempt extraction. If the bump remains bothersome, a dermatologist can confirm it and perform controlled removal; topical retinoids may be discussed for selected skin areas but should not be placed near the eye without explicit guidance.

Get medical advice for increasing redness, warmth, pain, pus, bleeding, marked eyelid swelling, or a rash spreading around the eye. Seek urgent eye assessment if you develop eye pain, light sensitivity, reduced vision, or difficulty opening the eye. These are not routine features of an uncomplicated milia bump.

Ask whether the bump is milia or another eyelid lesion, whether removal is suitable, and how close it is to the eye surface. Discuss aftercare, makeup use, and what symptoms would require a further review.
