What should you know about milia over eyelid?

A cyst over the eyelid may appear as a discrete white, cream, or skin-coloured bead with a smooth surface. It is commonly firm and not sore because it is not an inflamed pimple. Other eyelid lumps include styes, blocked oil glands, skin tags, and less common growths. Location matters: a lesion at the lash line, one attached to the lid margin, or one causing rubbing may require a different examination than a superficial spot on the eyelid skin.

Use gentle cleansing, avoid rubbing, and remove eye makeup carefully. Do not try to open the cyst or use exfoliating acids and retinoids near it without specific advice. If it remains present or affects your confidence, a dermatologist can inspect it and discuss professional removal. Curettage and cautery may be considered for a confirmed lesion, with the method adapted to the delicate surrounding skin.

Seek prompt medical care if you develop eye pain, vision change, increasing swelling, pus, fever, or redness extending beyond the eyelid. Arrange a review for bleeding, crusting, a persistent ulcer, rapid growth, or a change in colour or shape. Do not assume these findings are caused by milia.
