What should you know about milia inside nose?

A true milium is a tiny, firm cyst formed when keratin becomes trapped beneath the skin surface. The inside of the nose is a delicate mucosal lining, where dryness, rubbing, a blocked follicle near the nostril opening, or a small infection can produce a similar-looking spot. A clinician may need to look closely to distinguish these causes.

Pain, crusting, tenderness, discharge, or repeated bleeding point toward irritation or inflammation rather than a simple skin cyst. Avoid using facial exfoliants, acids, or retinoids inside the nose; they can damage the lining.

Leave the spot alone, use gentle saline moisture if dryness is a concern, and avoid picking or inserting tools. Book an assessment if it remains, grows, blocks airflow, or returns in the same place. Treatment depends on the diagnosis; removal techniques used for outer-skin milia are not automatically appropriate inside the nose.

Get prompt medical help for heavy or recurrent bleeding, rapidly increasing swelling, fever, spreading redness, severe pain, facial swelling, or difficulty breathing. Arrange review for a firm or non-healing nasal lesion or discharge that persists.

Ask whether the spot is on the skin at the nostril edge or on the inner lining, whether infection or irritation is present, and which treatment is safe for that exact tissue.
