Milia that have lasted for years

A long-standing milium may stay as a small, firm, pale bump without pain or discharge. That history can fit milia, but it does not identify every persistent skin bump. Whiteheads and other lesions can look similar. A clinician considers its colour, texture, growth, symptoms, and exact location rather than relying on duration alone.

If the spot is stable and does not bother you, gentle cleansing and leaving it alone may be suitable. If you want it removed, a dermatologist can discuss controlled extraction or another procedure. Topical retinoids may help selected cases but can irritate skin and should not be used near the eyes without specific guidance. Avoid home piercing, squeezing, and repeated harsh exfoliation.

Arrange a routine examination if the bump has lasted for years and has never been diagnosed. Seek earlier care if it starts growing, bleeding, crusting, hurting, changing colour, or becoming inflamed. Eye-area swelling, discharge, or vision symptoms call for prompt medical attention.
