Milia along the eyelash line

Milia are usually firm, smooth, and pale, while irritation at the lash margin may cause redness, crusting, burning, or tenderness. A bump can also be a different type of skin bump or a whitehead. Because the eyelid and eye surface are close together, appearance, symptoms, and exact position guide the assessment.

Clean the eyelid gently and avoid rubbing, squeezing, lash extensions, or sharp tools over the lesion. Do not put non-prescribed acids or retinoids along the lash line. If removal is desired, a trained clinician can select a controlled procedure such as curettage and cautery, taking the eye’s position into account. Follow the aftercare instructions and keep cosmetics away from irritated skin.

Arrange prompt care for increasing eyelid swelling, significant pain, pus, light sensitivity, blurred vision, or difficulty opening the eye. Have any persistent, bleeding, crusted, or changing bump examined. An eye clinician or dermatologist can decide which specialist is best placed to assess it.
