Kinesio tape for sinus pressure

Kinesio tape is an elastic adhesive strip placed on skin. When used around the nose, cheeks or forehead, it may alter skin sensation or give a feeling of gentle lift. Evidence for it relieving sinus pressure is limited, and the tape cannot clear mucus, open a blocked sinus or treat infection. Facial pressure may occur with sinusitis, chronic sinusitis or migraine, so the symptom alone does not identify the cause.

Skin can react to adhesive, especially after prolonged wear or application near the eyes. Tape should never cover the nostrils, restrict breathing or be placed over irritated, broken or infected skin. Removing it gently can reduce skin trauma.

If you try tape, use clean, dry skin, avoid the eyes and stop if you develop itching, burning, redness or swelling. Consider a GP or pharmacist assessment when pressure persists, returns often or comes with nasal discharge, congestion or headache. Treatment should match the cause and may involve options such as saline care or prescribed medicine rather than relying on tape alone. Do not use tape to delay assessment of a new or severe facial symptom.

Seek urgent care for facial pressure with swelling around an eye, vision change, severe headache, confusion, stiff neck, high fever or marked deterioration. Arrange prompt clinical advice for symptoms that persist, recur frequently, or are accompanied by one-sided swelling or significant facial pain.
