Home remedies for sinus pressure

Short answer
Warm fluids, saline nasal rinsing, humidified air and rest may ease sinus pressure, but severe or persistent symptoms need medical assessment.

What sinus pressure can mean
Pressure around the cheeks, forehead or eyes can occur when the lining of the nose and sinuses becomes swollen or mucus cannot drain freely. A cold or sinusitis may cause this pattern; allergies can also block the nose. Facial pressure can sometimes accompany migraine, especially when headache, light sensitivity or nausea are present. The sensation alone does not identify the cause.
Steps to try
Sip water or warm drinks, rest, and use a clean humidifier or breathe in gentle bathroom steam. A saline spray or rinse can loosen mucus; use sterile, distilled or previously boiled and cooled water, and clean the device after use. Sleep with your head slightly raised. Avoid cigarette smoke and other irritants. A pharmacist can advise whether a suitable pain reliever or nasal treatment fits your age, pregnancy status and other medicines; do not exceed the label directions.
When to seek care
Arrange medical advice if pressure is severe, keeps returning, or does not improve with self-care. Seek urgent help for swelling around an eye, vision changes, a severe headache unlike your usual headaches, confusion, a stiff neck, or difficulty breathing. A clinician can examine your nose, face and eyes and decide whether the problem is sinusitis, migraine or another condition.
