What should you know about dynamic mri scan?

A standard MRI shows detailed anatomy, while a dynamic sequence adds information about movement or contrast uptake and washout. This can help distinguish tissue patterns, assess blood flow, or clarify an area that is difficult to characterise on a static image. The scan does not automatically identify cancer; the radiologist interprets the pattern alongside symptoms, prior images, examination, and other tests.

Tell the imaging team about metal implants, a pacemaker, kidney problems, previous contrast reactions, pregnancy, or anxiety in enclosed spaces. Remove metal objects and follow any food or drink instructions. You may hear loud sounds and need to remain still while images are collected. If contrast is used, it is usually given through a vein during the appointment; staff can explain the timing and any sensations to expect.

During the appointment, report breathing trouble, widespread rash, facial swelling, severe dizziness, or a sudden feeling of being unwell. After contrast, seek urgent help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the mouth and throat. Contact the imaging service about persistent pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site.

Ask what tissue or function the dynamic sequence is assessing, whether contrast is required, how long you must remain still, and whether a biopsy or another scan could be needed after the report.
