Diet to reduce hair fall: what helps

Short answer
A varied diet with enough energy and protein may reduce nutrition-related hair fall, but ongoing loss still needs its cause checked.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why hair fall can persist
The body may shift hair follicles into a resting phase after under-eating, rapid weight loss, fever, surgery, or severe stress. Shedding can then become noticeable later, even after the trigger has passed. This is one possible pattern, called Telogen Effluvium. Diet will not explain every case: inherited Male Pattern Hair Loss or Female Pattern Hair Loss, Alopecia Areata, Scalp Ringworm, and traction from hairstyles have different clues and treatments. Counting every strand is less useful than noticing whether loss is diffuse, patterned, patchy, or linked to scalp changes.
Steps that are kind to hair and health
Eat consistently rather than relying on restrictive plans. Include protein from foods such as fish, eggs, yoghurt, chicken, tofu, beans, or lentils, together with iron sources, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. People with heavy menstrual bleeding, digestive disease, or a highly restricted diet may need tailored advice. Avoid taking several hair supplements together or using high doses without guidance; more is not automatically better. Reduce tight braids, extensions, frequent heat, and harsh chemical treatments if breakage or tension is present. Take a clear photo of the hairline or parting from time to time and record recent illness, medicines, stress, and weight change.
Warning signs to act on
Make an appointment if hair fall is continuing, worsening, or leaving a visible change in density. Seek prompt assessment for smooth bare patches, scalp pain, marked redness, swelling, crusting, pus, severe itch, or broken hairs. Loss of eyebrows or eyelashes and symptoms such as faintness, unusual tiredness, or unexplained weight change also deserve attention. The right treatment depends on the cause, so do not let dietary experiments postpone an examination.
Questions for your doctor
Could my shedding follow a recent illness, diet change, or medicine? Do I have signs of a deficiency or scalp disorder? How can I meet my nutrition needs safely? What treatment options apply if this is not nutrition-related?

Questions people ask
Can reducing calories cause hair fall?
A restrictive intake or rapid weight loss can contribute to shedding in some people, particularly when protein or other nutrients are inadequate.
Is hair fall from diet always temporary?
Not necessarily. Nutrition may be one factor, while another hair or scalp condition can continue unless treated.
