Ayurvedic treatment for milia

Small milia may settle without treatment. Persistent or bothersome bumps can be confirmed and treated by a dermatologist using methods suited to their location and your skin.

Milia are tiny, firm cysts containing keratin beneath the surface. They often look pearly white or yellow and commonly occur around the cheeks or eyelids. They are not the same as acne whiteheads, so acne squeezing techniques are unlikely to help.

Herbal pastes, abrasive powders, essential oils and acidic ingredients may inflame the surrounding skin without opening the cyst safely. The eyelid area is especially delicate, and products can migrate into the eye.

Leave the bump intact, use a gentle cleanser and choose non-greasy skin products if heavy creams seem to coincide with new lesions. Avoid needles, blades and vigorous scrubs. If you still plan to try a topical Ayurvedic preparation, show the full ingredient list to a dermatologist, keep it away from the eyes and stop if stinging or a rash occurs.

A clinician may suggest observation, a topical retinoid for suitable facial areas, or sterile extraction. Treatment near an eyelid requires particular care. The right choice depends on whether the bump truly is a milium, where it sits and how reactive your skin is.

Book an examination if bumps multiply quickly, recur repeatedly, change colour, bleed, become painful or do not resemble typical firm white cysts. Prompt care is appropriate for marked eyelid swelling, eye pain, visual disturbance or a spreading reaction after applying a remedy. These features need diagnosis rather than further home treatment.

You can ask how the clinician distinguished milia from acne or another bump, whether waiting is reasonable, and what removal could do to pigment or texture. Mention previous irritation, eczema, procedures and every traditional or cosmetic product used around the area.
