Zoloft Headache: What to Know

Zoloft is a brand name for sertraline, a medicine that affects serotonin signalling. Some people notice headache during the adjustment period, particularly after beginning treatment or changing the prescribed dose. A headache may also have another cause, such as missed meals, poor sleep, dehydration, a viral illness, sinus symptoms, or heat exposure. Keeping track of timing, intensity, other symptoms, and recent medicine changes gives the prescriber useful detail.

Do not assume every new headache is caused by the medicine. If the pattern began before sertraline, occurs only with a cold-like illness, or has a clear trigger, that context matters when deciding what to do next.

Take Zoloft exactly as prescribed and avoid stopping it suddenly without medical advice. Drink fluids regularly, eat consistent meals, and give yourself a quieter routine if light, noise, or screen use worsens the discomfort. These symptoms need prompt assessment rather than home treatment.

Ask whether the timing suggests a medicine side effect, whether any of your regular or occasional products could contribute, and which pain-relief options suit you. Mention migraine history, pregnancy plans, recent illness, alcohol or recreational drug use, and any change in mood, sleep, or anxiety since starting treatment.
