White spots under the eyes treatment: what should you know?

A small pearly bump may be milia, a keratin-filled cyst, but blocked follicles, irritation or another eyelid lesion can resemble it. A treatment chosen for acne or pigmentation may be ineffective or harmful on the eyelid. The clinician considers firmness, depth, inflammation, location and any change over time.

Some milia settle without intervention. Others remain and can be removed in a controlled, eye-safe setting. Do not confuse cosmetic removal with treatment for a rash, infection or eyelid disease.

Use a gentle cleanser, avoid rubbing, and stop harsh exfoliants, retinoids or fragranced products near the eyes unless a clinician has specifically advised them. A professional may discuss sterile extraction or another procedure appropriate to the lesion and your skin. Follow aftercare instructions carefully and keep the area protected while it heals.

Do not attempt home extraction with a needle, and do not place acne medication, wart treatment or household remedies close to the eye. Tell the clinician about contact lenses, eye disease, allergies and medicines that affect healing.

Seek assessment before cosmetic treatment if a spot bleeds, crusts, enlarges, changes colour, becomes painful or repeatedly returns. Get urgent care for vision changes, intense eye pain, sudden swelling, marked redness, discharge or light sensitivity. These features need eye-focused evaluation rather than routine bump removal.
