What should you know about white spots from sun fungus?

A superficial fungal rash can cause lighter patches with fine scale or mild itch, often on the trunk, shoulders, neck, or upper arms. The contrast may look stronger after tanning because unaffected skin darkens while the patch does not. Similar-looking pale areas can also follow inflammation or have another cause, so appearance alone cannot confirm fungus. A clinician may examine the scale and distribution before recommending treatment.

Keep the skin cool and dry, change out of sweaty clothing, and avoid sharing towels or clothing until the cause is clear. Use a gentle cleanser and avoid scratching. Do not repeatedly apply steroid cream or a mixed product without advice, because this can alter the appearance and complicate assessment. If a clinician confirms a fungal rash, follow the full directed course even when the surface looks better; colour can take longer to even out.

Seek assessment if patches are spreading, scaly, recurrent, or not improving with appropriate care. Arrange prompt review for pain, pus, marked swelling, fever, or involvement near the eyes. A pale patch without scale that continues to enlarge also deserves examination rather than repeated self-treatment.
