White laser diode: what to know

A diode laser is a device that produces focused light from a semiconductor source. White may refer to the casing, a marketing label, or visible indicator lights rather than the treatment wavelength. Diode systems are used in dermatology, including some laser hair removal devices.

The effect depends on how the energy is delivered and how the target absorbs it. Hair color, skin tone, treatment area, medicines, recent tanning, and device settings can affect suitability and side effects. The label alone cannot tell you whether a device is appropriate.

Ask the provider for the device name, wavelength, intended target, expected skin reaction, and operator qualifications. Mention recent tanning, a history of pigment changes, active skin disease, medicines that increase light sensitivity, and any tendency to form raised scars.

Follow the provider's preparation instructions, avoid treating irritated or broken skin, and use the recommended eye protection. Afterward, protect the area from heat and sun as advised, and report unusual blistering or persistent pain rather than applying random products.

Seek medical advice for blistering, increasing pain, marked swelling, signs of infection, or new light or dark patches that persist after treatment. Urgent assessment is appropriate for an eye injury or vision change after a laser exposure.
