Which specialist treats Meniere's disease?

Meniere's disease affects the inner ear and may cause episodes of vertigo, hearing loss, dizziness and ringing in the ears. An ear, nose and throat specialist can assess the pattern, examine the ears and arrange hearing tests. They may also consider other causes of balance or hearing symptoms before confirming a diagnosis.

A GP is a useful first contact because dizziness can have causes outside the ear. Bring details of episode length, triggers, hearing changes, ear pressure, medicines and any falls.

Arrange a GP consultation if these symptoms are new, recurrent or affecting driving, work or balance. Keep a symptom diary and note whether ringing or hearing loss occurs on one side or both.
